Acetyl L-Carnitine and Fertility

- One of the most important vitamins to increase fertility is a naturally occurring amino acid in the body. Its synthetic form is known as acetyl L-carnitine (ALC).
- This acid has antioxidant properties that increase fertility and reduce PCOS symptoms, as well as endometriosis (a condition where tissue similar to the endometrium grows but outside the uterus).
- It also plays a role in maintaining sperm health and improving their mobility.
- L-carnitine (LC) and acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC) are available as oral tablets or ampoules, either alone or in combination with another group of fertility vitamins.
Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine and its relationship to the fertility of women and men
- All B vitamins, including vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B9 (folic acid), as well as vitamin B12 play vital roles in the formation as well as the functioning of red blood cells.
- The health and safety of nerves also depend on the levels of B vitamins in the blood.
The relationship of vitamin B6 to fertility in women
- A 2007 study found that women with high levels of vitamin B6 had a higher degree of fertility and the possibility of getting pregnant easily compared to those with a small percentage. But does this mean that the problem of infertility in women can be solved simply by increasing the level of vitamin B6 in their bodies?
- It is still being studied and has not yet been scientifically proven.
- One possible reason vitamin B6 may be related to fertility is the levels of homocysteine, an amino acid found in the bloodstream. High levels of homocystiene acid in the follicles are associated with ovulation problems.
- Low homocysteine levels increase the likelihood of successful pregnancy.
- In a small study published in 2017, women with a history of pregnancy loss took folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 reduced homocysteine levels. But studies have not measured the level of vitamin B6 in the blood.
The relationship of vitamin B6 to fertility in men
- Although vitamin B6 is commonly found in supplements made for men in order to increase fertility, there is no evidence that vitamin B6 has an effect on male fertility.
- A review of some types of supplements found that vitamin B6 has no effect as well as other B vitamins including vitamin B1, B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), and B5.
