Remove mold, but do it right

Removing the mold alone is not enough. The cause of the mold formation must be identified and eliminated, otherwise the game starts all over again. Common causes of mold in the home and on the walls are: poor sealing of the walls, increased moisture production in the interior (e.g. from plants, drying laundry or wet showers), incorrect ventilation or insufficient heating.

Tips and warnings to avoid mold

  • If moisture is expected to return, you should use inorganic materials to renew the mold-infested areas. These include lime plaster and lime-mineral paints (silicate interior paint), which are generally a little more expensive than the usual binder paint, but are more vapor-permeable and inorganic.
  • If possible, do not stick wallpaper on the critical wall areas, as these usually form new breeding grounds for mold spores. Some types of mold are suspected to be linked to lung diseases and allergic diseases, as the spores can reach the skin and respiratory tract via the air.
