The Old School Pizza Burger is a nostalgic trip back in time, combining two beloved classics: pizza and burgers. Originating from the diner culture of the 1950s and 60s, this delightful fusion was a hit among kids and teens looking for a hearty and flavorful meal. It’s a wonderful recipe for those who crave comfort food with a twist, providing a taste of history with every bite.
Old School Pizza Burgers pair beautifully with a side of crispy French fries, onion rings, or even a simple Caesar salad. For a more nostalgic feel, consider serving it with a side of coleslaw or a classic pickle spear. If you’re looking to add a bit more green to your meal, a fresh garden salad with a zesty Italian dressing works perfectly. And don’t forget a cold, fizzy soda to complete the diner experience!

    Ingredients
    1 pound ground beef
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    Salt and pepper to taste
    4 hamburger buns
    1 cup pizza sauce
    1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    8 slices of pepperoni
    Butter for toasting buns
    Directions
    1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly incorporated.
    2. Shape the beef mixture into four equal patties.
    3. Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked to your desired level of doneness.
    4. While the patties are cooking, lightly butter the hamburger buns and toast them on a separate pan or grill until golden brown.
    5. Once the patties are cooked, place them on the bottom halves of the toasted buns.
    6. Spoon 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce over each patty, then sprinkle with 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
    7. Add two slices of pepperoni on top of the cheese.
    8. Place the top halves of the buns on each burger. If desired, broil the assembled burgers in the oven for a minute or two to melt the cheese completely.

    Variations & Tips
For a vegetarian twist, replace the beef patty with a grilled portobello mushroom or a plant-based burger patty. You can also add your favorite pizza toppings like mushrooms, bell peppers, or olives to the burger. If you prefer a spicier version, try adding some red pepper flakes to the pizza sauce or using a spicy pepperoni. For a richer flavor, consider using a mix of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
