I’m honestly baffled as to what is causing these incessant grease stains, but it’s almost as if they’ve declared war on every shirt in my husband’s wardrobe! Many readers have suggested that the culprits could be fabric softener or dryer sheets, but since I don’t use those, that theory doesn’t apply to us. If you’re experiencing a similar problem, this might be worth looking into.
Despite my diligent attempts, nothing seemed to get rid of these stains, and we ended up throwing out countless of his polo shirts and buying new ones. It had gotten so maddening that I was almost pulling my hair out every laundry day!
A friend of my mom suggested using Dawn Platinum Erasing Dish Foam as a solution to our grease stain problem. Designed primarily to clean dishes by absorbing grease, she mentioned that it also worked wonders on laundry. Intrigued and desperate, my mom tried it and confirmed its effectiveness. Taking their word for it, I decided to give it a try too. I originally bought it at Target a few times, but its availability was somewhat unpredictable. As a result, I decided to switch to Amazon to purchase the refill bottles in the future.
The unique thing about this soap is its foamy consistency when pumped, and a little goes a long way. Simply apply a small amount directly to each grease stain.

Rub the dish soap into the fabric with your fingers, making sure the entire stained area is covered.
Allow Dawn Platinum Erasing Dish Foam to sit on clothes for approximately five minutes before washing.
Use your regular detergent and wash clothes using the recommended settings. Personally, I choose to wash all my clothes in cold water using Tide Coldwater Clean.
If the grease or oil stain persists, re-treat the stain with Dawn Eraser Foam and repeat the process. There have been a few cases of stubborn set-in stains that required two or three washes, but most are removed after a single treatment, even if the stained shirt had already been washed and dried.
I have only tested this method on cotton, poly, and denim. If you encounter a stain on a more delicate fabric, I recommend testing Dawn Eraser Foam on an inconspicuous area first.
Finding this solution to eradicate stubborn grease and oil stains has been a huge relief! While I still don’t find joy in doing laundry, I have one less nuisance to deal with!
So what’s your laundry tip for dealing with stubborn or set-in stains? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
