Churro Cracker Candy is a delicious treat that combines the flavors of churros with the crunch of crackers. Here’s a simple recipe to make it at home:
Ingredients
- For the cracker layer:
- 1 sleeve of saltine crackers (or graham crackers for a sweeter base)
- For the caramel layer:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- For the topping:
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 1/2 cup crushed nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the sheet.
- Make the caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and stir until it comes to a boil. Boil for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
- Pour over the crackers: Carefully pour the caramel mixture over the arranged crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, until bubbly.
- Mix the topping: In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Once the crackers are out of the oven, immediately sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the hot caramel.
- Add chocolate (optional): If you want a chocolate layer, sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate over the caramel.
- Add nuts (optional): Sprinkle crushed nuts over the top for added crunch.
- Cool and break apart: Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, then break it into pieces.
- Enjoy: Store in an airtight container and enjoy your churro cracker candy!
