Ingredients

  • For the cracker layer:
    • 1 sleeve of saltine crackers (or graham crackers for a sweeter base)
  • For the caramel layer:
    • 1 cup unsalted butter
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • For the topping:
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
    • 1/2 cup crushed nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the sheet.
  3. Make the caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and stir until it comes to a boil. Boil for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  4. Pour over the crackers: Carefully pour the caramel mixture over the arranged crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, until bubbly.
  6. Mix the topping: In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Once the crackers are out of the oven, immediately sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the hot caramel.
