Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ganache Recipe
Ingredients:
For the chocolate cake:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for a richer flavor)
For the chocolate ganache:
- 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional, for extra shine)
Instructions:
- Prepare the cake:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans (or line them with parchment paper).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes until the batter is smooth.
- Gradually add the boiling water (or hot coffee), mixing until the batter is thin and well combined. The batter will be runny, but this is normal.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Make the chocolate ganache:
- Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer (don’t let it boil).
- Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to soften the chocolate.
- Stir the mixture until smooth and glossy. If you want extra shine, add 1 tablespoon of butter and stir until it melts completely.
- Let the ganache cool slightly, then use it to frost the cake.
- Assemble the cake:
- Place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of ganache over the top.
- Place the second layer of cake on top of the first one, pressing down gently to secure it.
- Pour the remaining ganache over the top of the cake, letting it drip down the sides for a beautiful, smooth finish.
- Serve:
- Allow the ganache to set for about 30 minutes before slicing, so it firms up slightly.
- Slice and enjoy the rich, decadent chocolate cake with its glossy ganache!
Tips:
- For a richer flavor: Using hot coffee instead of boiling water deepens the chocolate flavor of the cake.
- Storing: The cake can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the fridge for up to a week. Let it come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
- Adding extra flair: Garnish with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or a dusting of cocoa powder for an extra touch.
Enjoy your rich, moist chocolate cake with a luscious, glossy chocolate ganache!
