Cheeseburger Pockets

Cheeseburger pockets are a delightful twist on the classic American cheeseburger, providing all the flavors we love in a convenient, handheld form. These pockets are perfect for busy weeknights, casual get-togethers, or even a fun family meal. The concept hails from the fusion of traditional turnovers and the American burger, filling pastry dough with seasoned ground beef and gooey cheese. This unique dish maintains the essence of a burger while offering a fresh take that is portable and less messy.
Cheeseburger pockets pair wonderfully with crispy, seasoned fries or a fresh garden salad for a balanced meal. Sweet potato fries or a side of coleslaw can add a bit more variety. For a more indulgent option, consider serving them with onion rings or a creamy potato salad. A side of pickles or a dipping sauce such as spicy ketchup or garlic aioli also complements the flavors beautifully.

    Ingredients
    1 lb ground beef
    1 small onion, finely chopped
    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 package (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
    2 tbsp ketchup
    1 tbsp mustard
    1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    Salt and pepper to taste
    1 tbsp olive oil
    Directions
    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
    3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, for about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
    4. Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until well combined. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
    5. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles.
    6. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese onto each triangle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal, forming a pocket.
    7. Arrange the pockets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and crispy.
    9. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
    Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add some diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce to the beef mixture. You can also experiment with different cheeses such as mozzarella or pepper jack for varied flavors. If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with a meatless alternative or a mix of sautéed mushrooms and bell peppers. To make the dish more wholesome, consider using whole wheat crescent dough.
