    It happens to all of us housewives that we are bothered by the burnt iron. To make it as good as new again, all you need is a few simple tricks and a couple of natural ingredients that we all have at home.

    Here’s how to clean the cooktop, boiler and outer surface.

    BURNT IRON: THE MAGIC INGREDIENT THAT LEAVES YOU LOOKING LIKE NEW

    To remove dirt and limescale and polish burnt iron, the magic ingredient is vinegar.

    The metal plate, i.e. the part that is in contact with the clothes to be ironed, should be cleaned regularly. A dirty or burnt sole can damage garments.

    The plate can be polished easily and quickly using a solution of vinegar and coarse salt. When finished, simply wipe off the remaining salt with a damp cloth.

    With this method, the board will shine like new again.

    Iron: How to clean the boiler and outer surface

    Maintenance of the iron should not be limited to cleaning the sole. You should also carefully clean the outer surface and the boiler.

    The outside of the appliance should be cleaned in the same way as the plate is polished. Prepare a solution of vinegar and water and gently wipe the outer surface. Remove any remaining salt with a damp cloth and dry with a dry cloth.

    For the boiler, the procedure is different. You’ll need to fill half with water and the other half with vinegar. Turn on the iron and let the steam escape: this will remove the limescale from the boiler.

    Iron: how to keep it clean

    Here are some tips to keep your iron clean during and after use:

    • Always use distilled water to prevent limescale build-up. After each use, empty the reservoir completely;
    • Avoid running the iron over buttons and zippers, as they can leave residue;
    • Place a cloth between the iron and the fabric if you are ironing a synthetic fiber garment. This will prevent it from sticking to the sole and damaging both;
